Driver’s licenses that expired on April 3, 2019, will still be good until April 2, 2024, thanks to the Land Transportation Office (LTO). This is because driver’s license plastic cards are still not available.
If you renew your driver’s license, the system-generated official receipt must be stamped or written with “valid as temporary driver’s license until the plastic card is released.” This is what the LTO said in a memo dated September 6, 2023.
The office said that no fines will be taken out for licenses that have expired. It also said that people who have old or expired licenses will get them back, and they will still work until the new plastic card comes out.
Plastic cards have been hard to come by since April, so the LTO has had to switch to paper permits instead.
