The LG Electronics recently launched in the Philippines an air condition that could help fight dengue – a year-round disease that has become one the leading threats against the lives of Filipinos, especially children.
LG’s Mosquito Away Residential Air Conditioner has a speaker that emits ultrasonic waves, making inaudible u-wave at a specific frequency of over 30kH that may keep mosquitos away but is harmless to humans.
“Our new Mosquito Away residential air conditioners will help Filipino families protect themselves from the fatal dengue disease. It is once again our way of putting technology to good use,” said Steve Kim, Vice President for LG Philippines’ Air Conditioning and Energy Solutions group.
Dr. Pio A. Javier, Research Professor of the Crop Protection Cluster of the University of the Philippines — Los Baños said regarding the independent test done, “Test results showed that the LG RAC is capable of repelling indigenous mosquitoes, the dengue-causing Aedes aegypti, at a very high success rate of 82.71 percent.”
The new aircondition does not only boast of its Mosquito Away feature but also of its low voltage starter that lets it operate at lower temperatures, and its jet cooling feature that allows for quick cooling.
This new innovation will be an essential for Filipino homes especially those who have kids, since Philippines is a tropical country where dengue mosquito pester due to humid climate.
