Some LG monitors may automatically install an app on Windows PCs without asking for the user’s permission.
According to testing by Gamers Nexus, the app, called LG Monitor App Installer, is downloaded through Windows Update when a compatible LG monitor is connected to a Windows computer.
No prompt or confirmation is shown during the installation.
Additionally, it is found that the app requests permission to access “All system resources” and the device’s internet connection.
It also adds itself to the Windows startup, allowing it to run automatically every time the PC boots.
After installation, the app displays pop-up notifications promoting a 30-day McAfee free trial. It may also recommend other LG software.
Reports from online forums suggest that some users have experienced this behavior since at least 2024.
The app is installed via Windows Update’s device metadata feature, which can automatically download software for connected hardware.
The report has raised concerns among some users because software is being installed automatically through a monitor connection instead of being manually downloaded by the user.
