In your typical LG manager, the South Korean company announced its LG G8 Thinq with a couple of gimmicky features including its vibrating OLED panel and a cheaper LG G8s with flagship specs, like the Galaxy S10e and iPhone Xr.

Vibrating OLED Display

Service as the successor to the LG G7, the LG G8 looks almost exactly the same in terms of design with only a few minor updates like the flushed main cameras and the removal of the speaker in the notch. Speaking of, sound from calls will be coming from the OLED panel in which the company dubs as “Crystal Sound OLED Speaker”.

For some reason, LG likes to vibrate things like the “boombox” feature on the G7. But apparently, it paves the way for the “Z-Camera” or TOF sensor located beside the selfie camera within the notch section. Because of that, the company introduces its Hand ID and Air Motion.

Unlock your phone with blood

Unlocking the G8 through Hand ID means recording the hemoglobin in your blood by blasting infrared rays. In addition to it, you can control the phone without ever touching it. Through the TOF sensor, it can detect the depth of a hand allowing you to control volume in a pinching motion and swiping left or right to answer/decline calls or move to the next video.

In terms of camera, the single selfie camera makes use of an 8MP wide sensor while the flushed main camera contains the 12MP + 16MP wide + 12MP telephoto lenses. Additional features can also be found like the Night View mode for better night shots by combining 10 pictures into a single image along with real-time bokeh adjustment.

LG G8s for budget-conscious consumers

Other specs include a Snapdragon 855, 6GB RAM, 128GB expandable storage, 3500mAh battery, IP68 water and dust resistant build, and an audio jack.

In other markets, the company looks to bring the LG G8s with pretty much the same affair except with 64GB non-expandable storage and omission of Crystal Sound effect, leaving a sad OLED in its name.

As for the pricing and release date, LG hasn’t mentioned them yet. But given the price of the G7 last year, we could see the LG G8 to be priced around $900 while the G8s at $850.
