Made from a 10nm process, Huawei announced its latest Soc flagship, the Kirin 970. Having 5.5 million transistors, the processor is revealed to have immersive AI capabilities that will enhance a device’s performance to the next level indeed.
The Kirin 970 boasts 8 cores consisting of 4 Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.40 GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.80 GHz. Aside from that, it also sports an ARM Mali-G72 (12-core design) GPU that will make it 20 percent faster and 50 percent more power efficient than the 960. However, no clocking speed was revealed yet.

That said, the AI capabilities of the Kirin 970 was made possible through their Neural Processing Unit (NPU) technology. Boosting a performance of 1.92 TFLOPs of FP16, the SoC now processes 2005 images per minute. Other features of the SoC includes Integrated LTE modem with download capabilities of 1.2Gbps.
HDR 10, 4K video recording, Tensorflow / Tensorflow Lite and Caffe/Caffe2 support was mentioned as well. With the Kirin 970 revealed, Huawei confirmed last IFA that the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will be equipped with the SoC as well.
