iOS 14.5 can now change Siri’s Default to play Third-Party Music-Streaming Apps

Apple has released its iOS 14.5 and iPad 14.5 beta updates last week and it is packed with new features. The beta introduced support for a new “Unlock with Apple Watch” feature, dual-SIM 5G for the iPhone 12, support for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S controllers, and tons more. But among all the other new features, there is one that pokes our attention. The latest beta now can let you command Siri to play music using third-party apps.

According to Reddit user u/matejanmm1, who first spotted the feature and shared a screenshot, Siri is asking on “Which app would you like to use?” if you would ask to play a song. This interaction would only be the one and only time that Siri would be asking you and after that, the third-party music-streaming app will be set as the default music player. So, there is no need to have the same interaction for future commands. This also works in other music-streaming apps like Spotify, Deezer, YouTube Music, and the like.

Although at times, it will play songs from Apple Music which shows that the feature is in beta according to some users. Nevertheless, this is one great feature that would not limit everyone’s preferences in the apps they prefer to use. This similar function was present last year on iOS 14 which worked for emails and browser apps, letting them use third-party apps to be their default.
