Infinix NOTE 40 5G: The Budget Gaming Phone Under 13K?

Infinix is back with another budget gaming smartphone priced under PHP13,000! It boasts many notable features such as a fast refresh rate display, wireless charging, and a huge camera sensor. But is it truly a budget gaming smartphone? Today, we will test out some games on the Infinix NOTE 40 5G. Let’s begin.

Design and Build

First, let’s talk about its design and build. The Infinix NOTE 40 5G offers three color variants: Obsidian Black, Vintage Green, and Titan Gold, which is the review unit we have. The back panel has a matte-like finish that is somewhat prone to fingerprint smudges, but they are not very noticeable. Holding the device feels comfortable thanks to its soft back panel. It is also not heavy, weighing in at 185g. The panel turns blue when hit by light, which gives it a nice appearance.

Around its frame, you find the volume rockers and the power button on the right side, a speaker grille on top with text that says “sound by JBL,” the SIM tray on the left, and at the bottom, a USB-C port for charging, a microphone, and another speaker grille.

Design

Design-wise, the Infinix NOTE 40 5G has a lightweight and sturdy build that looks and feels good.

Turning over the device, the Infinix NOTE 40 5G boasts a 6.78″ FHD+ LTPS display paired with a 120Hz refresh rate. Infinix is one of the few brands that offer a high refresh rate display at an affordable price. Aside from the price, this is one of the main reasons they stand out in the market. The display is flat with vivid colors and decent sharpness. Using it for entertainment, we didn’t encounter any problems. Navigating the display is smooth, with no noticeable stutters or lags. It is also bright with a peak brightness of 1300 nits. Using the device outdoors poses no problems even in direct sunlight.

Camera

As for its cameras, the Infinix NOTE 40 5G features a triple camera setup with a 108MP AF main shooter, which is impressive considering its price. It also has a 32MP selfie shooter.

The main camera delivers a wide dynamic range with good color distribution. It captures plenty of details and sharpness with impressive AI processing, though colors can sometimes be oversaturated.

Performance

With the cameras out of the way, let’s see what powers the Infinix NOTE 40 5G. Under the hood, the Infinix NOTE 40 5G runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chip.

Our unit comes with 12GB of RAM with an additional 12GB of RAM expansion, which is pretty much overkill. 16GB of RAM would be more than enough to handle most games and multitasking.

For storage, this unit comes with 512GB, expandable up to 2TB via MicroSD. This is enough to handle all your files, videos, documents, and games.

As for gaming, we tested two different games. First, we played Mobile Legends at max settings. We didn’t encounter any frame drops or stuttering, and the device didn’t feel warm throughout the gameplay. Even during intense clashes, there were no noticeable stutters or frame drops. It feels like we maintained a stable 60FPS.

Additionally, there is a current collaboration between Infinix and MLBB featuring Esmeralda’s new skin, which is seen on the box sleeve. Infinix is also an official sponsor of the MPL Philippines.

Next, we played League of Legends: Wild Rift. Even with maxed-out settings, we didn’t encounter any problems, just like with Mobile Legends. The 120Hz refresh rate was not greyed out, and during gameplay, performance was smooth with no noticeable stutters or freeze frames. We estimate getting about 110 to 115 FPS.

Here are some of its benchmark results.

Speaking of charging, juicing up the 5000mAh battery with the 33W fast charger took about 1 hour and 12 minutes from 0 to 100%.
