OpenAI Introduces Images 2.6

OpenAI has introduced Images 2.6 in ChatGPT, Codex, and its API.

According to OpenAI, Images 2.6 generates images up to 50% faster than the previous version. It also improves consistency across editing rounds, helping maintain details such as characters, products, and brand elements when making changes.

Another major addition is GIF generation. Users can turn images, sketches, and characters into animated GIFs using text prompts. These can be used for social media reactions, brand mascots, product visuals, and animated storyboards.

Images 2.6 Editing Controls for Developers

Images 2.6 also introduces new tools for developers through the API, including:

  • Image markup: Allows users to identify specific areas of an image that need editing.
  • SVG exports: Supports exporting designs for use in websites, apps, and print.
  • Complexity controls: Lets developers adjust how much planning the model uses when generating or editing images.
  • Image quality controls: Provides options to adjust visual detail and image fidelity.

OpenAI also offers two API variants: GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst. Flare focuses on faster generation, while Sunburst is designed for higher-quality images and greater consistency across edits.
