Sony MDR-3R USB-C Headphones Introduced

Sony has introduced the MDR-3R, a new pair of USB-C wired headphones based on its original MDR-3 model, which was released alongside the Walkman in 1979.

The MDR-3R retains the original headphones’ lightweight, open-ear design while adding features for modern devices. These include USB-C connectivity, a built-in microphone for calls, and an in-line remote control.

The headphones use the same 23mm driver units as the original MDR-3, with updated tuning designed to preserve its balanced sound, natural vocals, and overall audio character.

Sony has also retained the original design elements, including blue and orange ear pads. The headphones come with packaging and an instruction manual inspired by the original model.

For its special edition, Sony is also releasing the MDR-3R Stranger Things Edition, featuring design details inspired by Netflix’s Stranger Things. The model takes inspiration from Max’s headphones and the series’ Upside Down, with an engraved Stranger Things logo and custom packaging.

The MDR-3R connects to compatible USB-C devices without requiring charging or Bluetooth pairing. It also uses approximately 25% recycled plastic in its construction and comes in plastic-free packaging.
