Are you having difficulty typing on your keyboard in the dark? Worry no more! On your Windows or Mac computer, turn on the backlight. If possible, you can turn on the light with a keyboard shortcut, a built-in app, or a unique app for your keyboard. We’ll tell you what you can do.
To activate the lighting on your keyboard when using Windows, you can either press a specific key on the keyboard or open the built-in Mobility Center application.
The device manufacturer determines which key you must press to turn on the backlight on your keyboard. However, the F5, F9, and F11 keys are the ones that are utilized the most frequently. If you want the lights on your keyboard to come on when you press these keys, first press and hold down the Fn key, then press the above keys.
You may activate the backlight on your keyboard by pressing one of the keys specific to its manufacturer. A checklist of some of those keys is as follows:
The Windows Mobility Center program is the way to go if you want to use a graphical interface to turn on the backlight on your keyboard. You can launch it by pressing the Windows key plus X and choosing the application from the list that appears.
To increase the keyboard’s brightness, move the slider to the right in the “Keyboard Brightness” area of the “Windows Mobility Center” panel. The backlight of your keyboard will become active as a result.
If you do not see a section labeled “Keyboard Brightness,” then the associated feature is probably not supported by your keyboard. In this scenario, you can attempt the app created by the manufacturer of your keyboard (if they have one) to determine whether or not it enables you to switch on the lighting.
There are three different ways to turn on the lighting on your keyboard when using a Mac that supports the feature.
Pressing the key specifically designated to raise the brightness on your keyboard is one option.
Accessing Control Center, selecting “Keyboard Brightness,” and then moving the slider to the right is the other method.
If your Mac has a Touch Bar, you can light up your keyboard by pressing the button that says “raise brightness” on the Control Strip that has been expanded.
Your Mac also automatically adjusts your keyboard backlight. Apple Menu > System Preferences > Keyboard >“Adjust Keyboard Brightness in Low Light” to enable it.
Use the “Turn Keyboard Backlight Off After _____ of Inactivity” option to turn off your keyboard backlight.
Sadly, not every keyboard has this function. Suppose your device is not supported if lighting up your keyboard in response to clicking a keyboard shortcut or selecting the backlight option within an app does not occur. There’s also the possibility that the lighting is damaged in some other way.
As much as it is undeniably helpful to have keyboard backlights, having a well-lit area just enough for your eyes is an excellent alternative without spending money.
