The look of Google Drive on mobile devices is set to match the system’s default style. Drive’s aesthetic is modified in the app or via the device’s configurations. Access Google Drive in a more subdued light with the help of this guide.
Android’s “Dark Mode” for Google Drive
For a more understated look when using Google Drive, you may use the system-wide dark theme on an Android 10 or later.
Access the Dark theme setting by opening the Settings app and going to Display (or Display & brightness) (or Dark mode).
On certain newer Android phones, the dark mode can activate in the accessibility menu by tapping on the color and motion options.
After disabling the dark theme, Google Drive reverts to its default light state. If you want Google Drive to always display in dark mode, even if you change your device’s theme, follow the instructions below.
- Launch Google Drive and pick the gear icon from the menu bar to the left of the main interface.
- Secondly, pick Dark from the “Theme” pop-up menu after tapping Select theme in the “Theme” section.

Set Google Drive to Night Mode (Web)
Our tutorial will teach you how to make Google Drive appear in night mode in Chrome and Firefox.
Hundreds of unreleased options and features are tucked away in Google Chrome’s hidden menu (Chrome Flags). Using Google Chrome, you may switch to a darker theme for Google Drive by following the instructions below.
Chrome:/flags can access in three easy steps:
- Launch Chrometype “chrome:/flags” into the address bar, and 3. Hit Enter or Return (Mac).
- In the search field, type “dark mode” and choose “Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents” from the resulting list.
- The experimental dark mode in Chrome can enable by selecting Enabled from the corresponding drop-down menu.
- The fourth step is a request to restart the browser, so the modifications take effect. To force Chrome to quit and restart, use the Relaunch option.
When you restart Chrome, the Google Drive page will automatically load in night mode, and Chrome’s experimental dark mode may turn off with the same ease. If you want to disable “Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents,” you may do so from the flags menu, then restart Chrome.
Dark Mode for Google Chrome (Cloud)
Both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge’s dark mode features are still in the testing phase. When you use experimental flags, your browser or computer may become unreliable, resulting in data loss and security breaches.
Turn off dark mode and restart your browser if you have any issues after enabling it. If the problem remains after a reboot, try another method.
Neither the stable release nor the beta versions of Mozilla Firefox or Safari have a dark mode. But, the Dark Reader add-on is compatible with Chrome and Firefox, allowing you to view Google Drive in a darker interface.
