We have a new tablet in hand, and as our title suggests, this is the HONOR Pad X8b.
With a price under PHP11k, is the HONOR Pad X8b worth a look? Read this review to learn more about this tablet.
First, let’s talk about its design, and let’s get straight to the point, there’s nothing too special about its appearance.

But, what makes it stand out is its durability because, despite being a budget tablet, it comes with a metal frame and body.
So if you’re clumsy or you’re planning to give it as a gift to little kids, you don’t have to worry too much about accidental drops.
In real-life use, it is quite heavy, weighing 496 grams. We would recommend using a tablet stand or holder so your hands won’t get tired, especially when watching videos or using it for long periods.

So far, its build quality is actually decent. Despite its weight and large battery, it still feels slim, making it fairly easy to carry around even though it’s a bit heavy. Unfortunately, it does not come with a keyboard or stylus, so you cannot really use it like a laptop.

Next up is the display. This tablet features an 11-inch TFT LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and up to 500 nits of peak brightness.
For multimedia use, it delivers a good viewing experience. However, the bezels are quite thick, which is common for budget-friendly tablets.
For watching movies and series, the display quality is good enough. Viewing angles are also decent, so you can still comfortably watch even if you’re not directly in front of the screen.

When it comes to outdoor usage, we would not recommend it since the brightness is limited. Details on the screen become harder to see, especially under strong sunlight.
What we do like here is that it is best suited for productivity and multimedia use.
However, when navigating the interface, you may notice some slowdowns. It can feel slightly laggy at times, and it does not always feel like a true 90Hz experience, even when it is set to high refresh rate mode. Well, this could also be due to being used to higher refresh rate displays.
As for cameras, this device has a 5MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. As expected for a budget tablet, the camera quality is basic.

Selfie Camera
Upon using the camera, we think that you are better off using your smartphone for photos and video calls.

Now, for performance, the HONOR Pad X8b is not powered by a flagship chipset. It runs on the Snapdragon 680, which is designed more for power efficiency rather than raw performance.
We tried using it for light tasks such as script writing and research, and it performed well overall. Typing can be a bit inconvenient, since there is no included keyboard accessory.
We also tried video editing. For basic cut-to-cut editing, it’s okay. When adding transitions, it can still handle the workload, but there is noticeable lag in the transition library.
For gaming, we tried playing a match of TFT, and the performance was decent. It does not heat up much, even after extended use. However, our main concern is the touch response, which can occasionally feel slightly unresponsive during gameplay.
Benchmark Results

When it comes to battery life, the HONOR Pad X8b is equipped with a massive 10,100mAh battery.
However, power consumption is also relatively high. We tried watching a Twitch video for 30 minutes, starting at 85 percent battery.
Finally, pricing. The HONOR Pad X8b is priced at PHP10,999 SRP for the 4GB + 128GB storage.
Overall, the HONOR Pad X8b is a decent tablet for its price. However, if you already own its predecessor, the HONOR Pad X8a, this may not be a worthwhile upgrade.
It offers almost the same features, with only a larger battery as a noticeable change. If it had a better chipset or at least an AMOLED display, it would have been a much stronger option.
