As is often the case with popular trends, scams have jumped right on the Threads bandwagon to make money.
Experts from Kaspersky have found that hackers are using a number of tricks to take advantage of the app’s users. This is mostly done by pretending to be the Threads app to trick users and possibly get access to their accounts, personal information, and even money.
Fraudsters have made phishing pages that look like an online version of Threads that doesn’t exist.

Scammers trick users into typing their login information, which gives scammers access to their private information. Since Threads is tied to other Meta services, users may also lose access to their Instagram and Facebook accounts if they lose access to Threads. Not only does this have privacy risks, like name theft and “doxing,” but it also has financial risks, which are even scarier. Personal banking information or even business finances could fall into the wrong hands, since companies use these accounts to make ad campaigns.
Another scam involves a fake service called Threads Coin, which claims to offer more options by connecting the real world and the digital world, especially in the Metaverse. Users might be tempted to use Ethereum to buy this coin. But the only thing that would happen is that people would lose money.
