Google Officially Transitions Fitbit to Google Health

Google has announced that the Fitbit app will become the Google Health app, bringing a centralized place for health and wellness data.

Many features of Fitbit will still be available in the new Google Health, in addition to new tools and a redesigned layout. The app will now have four tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health. The dashboard will also be customizable for easier access to health metrics.

The new app supports a handful of apps and devices, including Health Connect, Apple Health, and the Google Health APIs. This allows for all the user’s data, such as activity, sleep, nutrition, and clinical records, to be centralized into the app. The app will also spot trends, track progress, and see how the user’s health fits together.

In the United States, users can sync their medical history to the app to easily track lab results, medications, and vital signs over time. All records are kept secure within Google Health, giving users full authority over how their data is shared, used, or removed.

Users can share their progress and keep track of their friends through expanded leaderboards. Cycle tracking has also been upgraded, featuring improved logging, irregularity trends, and a fully interactive calendar.

Additionally, the Google Health app has been enhanced by the Gemini-powered Google Health Coach, which delivers timely insights via the “Today” tab. Under the Fitness tab, users can access a “weekly plan” featuring AI-generated workout suggestions created through natural language commands. The Sleep tab also provides analysis of weekly consistency and rest progress, while the Health tab offers a snapshot of key metrics along with AI-summarized medical records.

Existing Fitbit users won’t have to download a separate app, as their data will transition automatically. The update will be implemented starting May 19 through an automatic app update.
