Get Ready for Artificial Intelligence, PH Declared

Artificial Intelligence

Rep. Robert Ace Barbers of Surigao del Norte is the head of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs. He said that authorities from the U.S., Great Britain, the European Union, and several ASEAN countries are working quickly to set up rules to control how AI technology is used.

House Bill 7396, which Barbers introduced earlier this year, calls for the creation of a “superbody” called the Artificial Intelligence Development Authority (AIDA) to oversee the development and deployment of AI technologies, make sure that AI ethics principles and “guide rails” are followed, and protect the rights and well-being of people and communities who are affected by AI technologies.

In answer to how quickly AI is growing and being used, especially in academic settings, the University of the Philippines (UP) has come up with a draft of 10 guidelines for the “responsible use” of AI.

The draft sets out the “UP Principles for Responsible Artificial Intelligence” for use and development in universities and for the general good. It asked for suggestions from students, teachers, and other people in the UP community on how to improve the study.

Concerning job loss, Barbers said he has heard that the country’s use of AI technology could affect the local BPO (business process outsourcing) industry, which employs more than 528,000 people in call centers, as well as other industries like online marketing and search engine optimization, finance, health care organizations, transportation, and retail.
