Gadgets to Rock while OTG (On-the-Go)

Top gadgets to bring when travelling

Phone and laptop aside, there are things that I can’t live without specially when traveling. What more I need to travel light what with the need to keep my luggage allowance to a minimum (pasalubong, anyone?).

Mabuhay, everybody, this is Drew for Manila Shaker and here are my 5 (on-the-go) OTG gadgets for travel within the Philippines.

The powerbank

When it comes to juicing my phone and audio player back to life there’s nothing I trust more than my Xiaomi Mi Powerbank 16000 mAh Php 1,299 SRP. It’s cheap, reliable while packing a smart chip from Texas Instruments (the ones that power some calculators and computer motherboards) that determines the most optimized amount of charge your phone can handle in the shortest amount of time.

The multiple USB wall adapter

It was happenstance for me to have found this little gem tucked somewhere in an electronics shop. The Bavin USB wall adapter comes with 2 USB ports with varying voltages for phone and tablet needs. The addition of a short, built-in micro-USB cable comes in handy to charge my powerbank to boot.

The headphones

It’s just personal preference but I use Marshall Major II on-ear headphones to soundtrack my days away from home. It’s comfortable and reasonably priced for a good headset with more than decent audio drivers. It’s a plus to have an in-line mic on the able. It folds nicely to fit in smaller bag pockets too. Great for audiophiles OTG without the bulk.

The OTG USB

Many if not most smartphones support USB OTG nowadays. Many manufacturers, too, have foregone the expandable memory card slot for other features. Regardless of whether you have the option, I find having an USB OTG has saved my life more than cats get theirs. I have my Sandisk Cruzer Orbit 8GB USB OTG flash drive (Php 149 SRP) attached to my key carabiner at all times. Yes, 8GB is small but I almost always need it for file transfers to and from PCs that don’t have Bluetooth handy.
