Although, i’m sure this is pretty much applicable to other purchases other than smartphones, we can’t deny the power that price holds. We mentioned in our previous article that this affects greatly, in how a person decides an item to purchase, so, there is no doubt that price is a driving factor in purchasing a smartphone. A good example of this is how we would rather purchase a local brand smartphone, rather than an international brand, because we have a certain mindset that, we can have the same utility of a smartphone, for a better value. Better value, this is a strong force that drives us to get better deals at all cost.

Quality over quantity
The second fundamental factor is quality. Quality and price often contradict with each other in certain points, since some may prefer a mediocre product, with an affordable price and others would prefer a costly item, but is top notch at all sides. This measures the person purchasing capability, as to whether the person could afford a more quality-wise item or would settle to a mid-tier or sometimes mediocre item for a cheaper price. However, for those who are capable of buying a more high-end device, such as smartphones, they intend to put quality first before everything else. Because truth be told, one would prefer to get their money’s worth, despite a bit too much, rather than carry a disposable device, that’ll probably be broken in just a manner of days.

New features and specs are always a plus
People are instinctively always on the look out for new things. We, as human beings are always looking for surprises, so, one driving force in purchasing a smartphone is apparently seeing something new on a particular device. Like lets say, a new feature or a new and up-to-date system, something that we can feel good at. The vast majority of people that usually replaces their smartphone are either has a malfunctioned device, or simply they want to get the newer phones in the market, for the sole purposes of getting their hands on to new devices and try out their new features and specs themselves. Thus, people would be very intrigued and would want to purchase their own device.

This is more of a factor that can be applied to only a few parts of the smartphone market. Trend setting devices or status symbols devices are something that will always get the hype of its followers, a good example of this is the iPhone series. We can’t deny the fact that the iPhone series is one of the most well-known smartphone series in the market today, and they’re there for a reason. iPhones have become sorta like a status symbol, which is typical okay to tell you the truth, since this particular trend of buying-the-newer-iPhone has been common on first world countries and even third world countries. Its a sort of follow-the-leader trend that has been going around since the dawn of new age technology. So, don’t be surprised if you have a sudden urge to purchase one of these trend setting device, its pretty normal to say the least, but for those who doesn’t like to get themselves into the status quo, then its your call, but kudos to you anyways.

The wisdom of the crowd
Similar to price and quality, this is another factor that can be applied not only to smartphones. The wisdom of the crowd is a study that states that opinions of others are highly gonna lead you to the right choice. When related to smartphone purchasing, these could either be smartphone reviews, articles or just simple ol’ recommendations and word of mouth. This is by far, one of the most influential factors in this list, because it drives a particular person into a choice that pretty much came from other people. As much as scary and distrusting that sounds like, it is quite effective. Studies state that if you ask more people for their opinions regarding a particular choice then you’ll most likely land on the upside part of the decision, or for smartphone buyers, getting your moneys worth. It has been proven that this is an effective way to decide a particular item to purchase, without necessarily being the sole decision maker. Who knows, you might get more than what you expect from following the wisdom of the crowd.
