Facebook’s massive security breach affected 50 million user accounts, exposing their personal information and also enabled the hackers to directly take over the affected accounts.
According to Facebook, the company found out the bug that the attackers had exploited a feature in Facebook’s code that affected the “View As” mode. Facebook says that the attackers can view everything in the victim’s profile, though it’s still unclear if it includes private messages.
To fix the issue, Facebook automatically logged out 90 million users from their accounts after their security team confirmed the bug. Also, the company has confirmed that third-party sites that users used to log in their accounts could also be affected.
The company states that peoples’ privacy and security are very important and apologizes for the incident. They also disabled the “View As” feature temporarily while the company conducts a thorough security review.
