The Philippines is prepared to adopt the latest trends in the post-pandemic, new normal situation as the rest of the world gradually introduces the voluntary use of face masks outdoors. Executive Order No. 3, approved by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., permits the “voluntary wearing of face masks in open spaces and non-crowded outdoor venues with excellent ventilation.”

With the adoption of Executive Order Number 3, Filipinos can choose not to wear face masks outside or in public areas like parks. Trixie Cruz-Angeles, the press secretary, emphasized that they strongly advocate face masks for elderly and immunocompromised people.

One of the motivations for the country’s intention to loosen its present COVID-19 protocols and treat the virus like the common flu is the possibility of wearing masks outdoors.

The IATF has advised that we relax our mask regulations and make mask use outside of the home optional nationwide. Suppose seniors and those with impaired immune systems are strongly encouraged to continue wearing their masks. In that case, it becomes optional in open spaces or unpopulated outdoor locations with excellent ventilation.

Long-term, if COVID-19 booster coverage is increased nationally, DoH officer-in-charge Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire and DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos said they intend to perform a pilot test of the complete lifting of the use of face masks.
