Tweet editing is locked behind the company’s soon-to-change $4.99 Twitter Blue subscription, which is only available in a few countries, and Twitter has stressed that the edit feature is still in testing. Musk thinks everyone can use it, and he is also planning a significant change to Twitter Blue that could happen in the next few days.
The main feature of the new $8-a-month Twitter Blue plan, down from $20, is verification, which lets you rent a “verified” checkmark. Users who pay will also get faster responses, be able to post more extended audio and video and see half as many ads. Bloomberg says the new Blue could go live as early as Monday, November 7.
The team working on Blue has been told that they will be fired if they don’t meet that deadline, and at least one Twitter worker has slept at the office to meet that goal. The Verge reported Wednesday evening that employees are still getting ready for layoffs, which could affect about half of the company’s employees.
