Discord has introduced several new features based on suggestions from its users as part of its 11th birthday celebration.
The company previously asked users what features they wanted to see next. The post received millions of views and more than 3,000 responses, with users suggesting improvements across different parts of the platform.
One of the changes is pinned DMs on desktop. Users can now pin direct messages to the top of their DM list on the desktop app. DMs that were already pinned on mobile will also carry over to desktop.
Discord has also expanded pinned channels to all servers. Previously, the feature was limited to Community Servers. Users can now pin channels in any server for easier access, and the pinned channels are only visible to the user who pinned them.
For moderators and server owners, Discord added several management improvements. The Audit Log can now be accessed for non-members, including kicked and banned users, allowing moderators to view past cases. Discord also added an option to limit member pruning to server administrators and introduced the ability to duplicate roles.
Other changes include:
- Larger profile pictures: Users can click profile pictures to view them in full size.
- Desktop search: The “Next Page” button is now always visible when browsing search results.
- Friends Since: User profiles can now show how long two users have been friends.
- Attachment editing: Users can add alt text or a spoiler tag to images after sending them.
- Bulk leaving Group DMs: Users can leave multiple inactive group DMs at once.
- Longer bios: Profile bios can now contain up to 300 characters.
- GIF links: Users can copy GIF links directly from the GIF picker.
- Jump to Top: Mobile users now have an arrow to quickly return to the top of a conversation.
Discord also said it is working on additional features based on user requests. These include an experiment for hiding profile badges and an increase to the Group DM member limit, which currently supports up to 10 people.
The company did not provide a specific release date for the expanded Group DM limit, noting that it is still in development.
