The Department of Education (DepEd) will distribute 172,654 Apple MacBook Neo laptops to public school teachers and administrative staff across the Philippines.
The purchase covers 169,008 laptops for teachers and another 3,646 for administrative personnel.
Each laptop was procured for around PHP 43,000. The cost includes software, delivery, and training for teachers. DepEd also secured a five-year warranty for the devices, longer than the one-year coverage offered with standard retail units.
The negotiated price is approximately PHP 6,900 below the laptop’s PHP 49,900 suggested retail price for the 256GB base model. The total procurement is estimated at around PHP 7.4 billion, although DepEd has not disclosed the final contract amount.
Teachers will also be able to use Apple’s online Education Community, which provides learning resources and training materials. The platform includes more than 70 lesson plans created by Filipino educators for the country’s K–12 curriculum.
Apple CEO John Ternus announced the agreement during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call, identifying the Philippines as the site of its largest education deal for Mac computers to date.
