The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) stated that Apple Pay is allowed to launch in the Philippines anytime.
This is because Apple Pay is not a payment system, but rather a technology service provider which is the same classification given to Google Pay.
As technology service providers, both Apple Pay and Google Pay do not hold user funds or process financial settlements.
This means they do not need to register with the BSP before operating in the country.

With that being said, the timing of Apple Pay’s launch now depends entirely on Apple.
However, the company has not announced an official date for when its mobile payment service will become available to Filipino users. For now, it is already available in other Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam.
Should Apple Pay launch in the Philippines, would you consider using it?
