Finally, we got our hands-on on the Asus Zenfone Selfie (ZD551K price and specs below) in dual micro 4G LTE model. We unboxed it right away and made a brief comparison to Sony’s selfie phone, the Xperia C5 Ultra. Our unit comes in Pink variant, other options are white and blue.
For starters, Zenfone Selfie sports dual 13MP cameras, one is on the back as primary and other is front-facing for selfie. The main and front cameras are coupled with dual tone LED flash. Only the main has laser autofocus assistance.

What’s in the retail box of Zenfone Selfie?
The Selfie comes with the same box design as to the Zenfone 2 with a faster charger (2.0 vs 1.5A on Zenfone 2), data cable, stereo headsets and set of startup guides.

Hands-on, First Impressions of Zenfone Selfie
The Zenfone Selfie is a close replica to the Zenfone 2. There are few differences in dimensions and aesthetics, but overall, a fan could easily distinguish the Selfie from the Zenfone 2 through their back.
Selfie comes with removable plastic back, finish is matte polycarbonate compared to the faux metallic brush on Zenfone 2. If not for the bright colors of Selfie, the Zenfone 2 would’ve looked more attractive.
One advantage of Selfie over Zenfone 2 is the removable battery. Access is through the back, the same for dual micro SIM tray and microSD card slot.
The signature rear volume rocker (fist on LG G3) is also present on the back of Selfie. The buttons act as a single step shutter key for taking selfies too.
As we mentioned on top, the Zenfone Selfie has 13MP camera, one is on front which is accompanied by a dual tone LED flash. It sits on top of the 5.5-inch FHD screen backed by Gorilla Glass 4.
The same non-lit capacitive navigation keys coming from Zenfone 2 are present on the Selfie.
Bottom line: The Asus Zenfone Selfie is a Zenfone 2 with new innards, tougher screen and upgraded selfie cam. It is just a matter of time before we find out if these upgrades are really worth it through our upcoming review and comparison.
Sizing up the Zenfone 2 Selfie to the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra
Before two phones go to battle, we put them on a quick size comparison. The Xperia C5 Ultra is a big phone due to its 6-inch screen but it still remain compact, thanks to its thin bezel and dimensions.
The Zenfone Selfie is still few mm narrower but it is chunkier due to thicker dimension. Its screen-to-body ratio is also lower compared to Xperia C5.
What the Selfie offers is a bright polycarbonate removable tapered back, while the Xperia C5 has glass black and rounded polycarbonate framing.
