ASUS ROG 3 and ROG 3 Strix Edition Now Official for India and Europe
As scheduled, ASUS has launched the ROG 3 gaming phone for 2020. Much like the rest of the leaks, the powerful mobile device packs the latest Snapdragon 865+, 144Hz FHD+ AMOLED display with full support for 10-Bit HDR, an incredibly-fast 270Hz touch rate for 25ms touch latency, 6000mAh battery, and AirTrigger 3 starting at INR 49,999(~P33,000) for the 8GB/128GB model in India. The 12GB/256GB model costs INR 57,999(~P38,300). In Europe, the 12GB/512GB and 16GB/512GB cost €999(~P57,700) and €1,099(~P62,800), respectively.
Unlike other brands, ASUS went with ROG 3 Strix Edition instead of adding a “Pro” or “Max” on the moniker. The difference, however, is that the Strix Edition is the less expensive variant. It features the same specs and design, but the chipset is the still-capable and 5G-enabled Snapdragon 865 and, the memory combo is lower. In Europe, the Strix Edition with 8GB/256GB will sell for €799(~P45,700) and will become available at the end of July 2020.Â
Design-wise, the ROG Phone 3 is still a massive and thick phone at 240g and 9.88mm. The back is now smoother, thanks to the Gorilla Glass 6 material — also found on the front. While there are two USB-C ports capable of 30W ROG HyperCharge and PowerDeliver 3.0, the audio jack gets omitted. Instead, ASUS is bundling a dongle in the box.Â
The pressure-sensitive triggers on the right-hand side, aka AirTrigger 3, has expanded its capability. It now maps up to six different actions to improve the gaming experience. You can check the illustration below for a better understanding.
While ROG Phones don’t carry incredible cameras, ASUS is generous enough to offer 64MP triple-cameras on the back, capable of up to 8K video recording and 4K @ 120fps slo-mo. Recording a 4K timelapse is also present. A couple of flagship features that the beastly phone is missing are IP rating and wireless charging.
