ASUS 8Z debuts in India

ASUS is finally updating its mobile portfolio in India with the ASUS 8Z, a rebranded version of the Zenfone 8, originally launched in May 2021.

The ASUS 8Z withdraws the popular “Zenfone” brand in India due to trademark conflicts in the region. With that, starting with the ASUS 6Z, the nomenclature has been reworked, but the technical details are identical.

The smartphone is equipped with a 5.9-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, touch sampling at 240 Hz and peak brightness at 1,100 nits. The display is certified HDR10+ content. There is a punch hole that houses the 12MP front camera with a Sony IMX663 sensor.

The main rear camera is the 64MP Sony IMX686 main sensor with optical stabilization (OIS) and support for recordings up to 8K resolution. In addition, there is an excellent wide-angle camera with a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor that supports macro photography, dual-Pixel auto-focus and recordings up to 4K at 60 fps.

Such specs require more robust hardware, and this is no problem for the Snapdragon 888 which, despite already being succeeded by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, still delivers high performance and the advantageous Adreno 660 GPU. The platform will work with the 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, as well as supporting 5G connectivity.

Powering this hardware is a 4,000 mAh battery with 30W fast charging support . Other specs include dual speakers with stereo audio, Wi-Fi 6 support, Bluetooth 5.2, and IP68 certified water and dust resistance. The model runs Android 11 under ZenUI.
