Expensive iPhones worth your money: The official Philippine pricing of the new Apple iPhones have been released a few days back and we’ve seen mixed reactions from the media-tech industry and even from the netizens. Now, many are asking: are the newly released iPhones worth my PHP 100k?

First, the Notch

2 1

Yep, that’s right. The same old “bigger” notch is still present on the new iPhones. Plus, unlike other smartphones that also hopped on to the notch trend, Apple still hasn’t added an option to hide the irritating black bar. Aside from that, nothing really changed much from the 2017 iPhone X, design-wise.

Imagine a table with two iPhones: one iPhone X and one iPhone XS Max, you’d probably be confused which is the newer and older model.

Price tags are RIDICULOUSLY high

The official PH SRP for the iPhone Xr, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max has been released a few days ago. And guess what? We are not happy with the respective price tags. If you look at it, there are many new smartphones in the market available at a lesser price but offers the same performance, or maybe even better! Well, if you have tons of extra cash and has the luxury to spend PHP 100k on an overly hyped gadget, go for it!

Only few changes from last year’s iPhone X

Again, if you have an older iPhone X and iPhone XS Max sitting side by side, you’ll see no changes. (Except if you get the gold variant of the XS Max). Apart from the new A12 Bionic processor and some major adjustments to the cameras, no other notable and significant changes were made.

iPhone Xr specs – too downgraded

Planning on getting the cheaper 2018 iPhone? But what if we tell you that it’s actually better and smarter if you’ll choose an iPhone 7 Plus over the new Xr? First and foremost, the new iPhone Xr only has an 828p screen resolution, whereas the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus has a sharper display with 1080p resolution.

ios 12 apple update

In addition, despite paying less for the iPhone 7 Plus, you’ll still be able to enjoy the same operating system – the iOS 12. Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are also thinner and lighter compared to the new iPhones this year. Most importantly, the older iPhone 7 Plus still has the home button that houses the fingerprint sensor, which most consumers might prefer over the Face ID on the new iPhones

 iPhone XS Max charging fiasco

6 1

In case you haven’t heard of the news, some iPhone XS Max users have raised their concerns regarding the charging mishaps on their newly bought and super expensive iPhone XS Max. Apparently, some iPhones XS Max units won’t’ start charging even when the lightning cable is already connected. Some units have to be tapped first  (needs to “wake up” the screen) for the charging to begin.

iPhone XS Max is only bigger, not better than the slightly cheaper iPhone XS

Normally, if there are two or three variants of a certain smartphone or any gadget, the bigger and more expensive model has extra features that you won’t get if you’ll choose the cheaper and smaller one. That’s not the case with the iPhone XS and XS Max, though. You’ll get the exact same thing, just in a bigger body and more expensive pricing!

  1. These iPhones are just ridiculously expensive. Thus, the other phone makers are following suit. Other flagship phones are now selling at P50K to P70K price range. Albeit cheaper than the 2018 iPhones, still expensive.

For me, the sweet spot for a flagship phone should be the P40K to P50K price range. Beyond that, that translates to a good laptop already. Laptop price should always be higher than phone prices, given the specs and electronics behind it.
