Pixel 6 and 7 Heating Problems

The Pixel 6 marked a turning point for the Pixel series, capturing attention with its revamped design and the innovative Tensor G1 chip focused on intelligence.

However, this excitement waned as users encountered overheating problems with these Tensor-equipped phones. The issue persisted with the subsequent Pixel 7 series, also featuring the Tensor G2.

While anticipation grows for the Pixel 8 series and potential overheating concerns, but Google might have found a solution for the earlier Pixel models through the Android 14 update.

Numerous Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 owners on have reported a noticeable reduction in their phones’ heat levels and improved performance after updating to Android 14.

Users also mentioned an apparent increase in battery life, possibly attributed to the CPU not working as hard. Although Google hasn’t released specific details about how Android 14 addresses overheating concerns on Pixel devices, speculations point to potential adjustments in the CPU scheduler to optimize the usage of powerful CPU cores.

This development is a welcome improvement, especially given the recurrent reports of Pixel smartphones running excessively hot.

There are rumors suggesting that the newer Pixel 8 series also maintains lower heat levels, potentially by throttling the Tensor G3 chip to half its performance.

This approach, however, raises concerns as it could result in the Pixel 8 series having a chipset performing on par with a budget smartphone, particularly when compared to competing chips like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

If these throttling rumors are accurate, it presents a critical consideration for potential Pixel 8 buyers regarding the trade-off between performance and heat management.
