Despite being the least expensive of the series, Reno6 5G separates itself by offering a different build, one that specifically looks like it takes inspiration from the current iPhone 12 models.
Instead of using curved chamfered edges, the device is sporting an aluminum alloy frame that’s edgy, thus providing a cornered look. Vivo actually made the same step when Apple announced the iPhone 12 last year, but OPPO’s move doesn’t surprise at all since the two Android companies share the same parent company — BBK Electronics.
Nevertheless, Reno6 5G’s squared edges may deliver that iPhone 12-like feeling in the hands, especially with the handy 6.43″ AMOLED display that supports a 90Hz refresh rate and up to 750 nits peak brightness. The flat panel comes with Gorilla Glass 5 as its first line of defense, but we’re not sure whether the back panel gets the same treatment.
At the core of the Reno6 5G is Dimensity 900, a slight upgrade from the Snapdragon 765G of the predecessor. Although the microSD slot continues to be absent here, you do get dual-5G standby. The back camera setup now lacks a 2MP depth sensor, thus giving you a 64MP+8MP ultrawide+2MP macro combination. The 32MP selfie camera stays, though.
Wi-Fi 6 arrives to OPPO’s mid-range devices, but the audio jack gets omitted as well as NFC. Lastly, the 4300mAh battery still comes with 65W fast charging support.
OPPO Reno6 5G’s 8/128GB and 12/256GB are priced at ¥2799(~₱21,000) and ¥3199(~₱24,000), respectively, and will go on sale on June 5th. Again, we expect OPPO to deliver the Reno5 Series in the Philippines later this year.
