Moto G5 and G5 Plus just went official. If you didn’t know, that’s probably because it’s not under flagship tier. Moto’s mid-range lineup is not as impressive as Huawei P10 and P10 plus, but the affordable price tag might just grab your attention.
G series currently holds the best-selling smartphone under Moto moniker. Why? Because it’s an affordable mid-range device.
Both the Moto G5 and G5 Plus resembles the Moto Z, the company’s flagship smartphone. Meaning, it’s an all-metal build for the mid-range tier handsets.
The G5 comes at 5.0-inch screen size while the not so big G5 Plus settles for a 5.2-inch, wherein both are packing a 1080p resolution IPS LCD panel.
Setting standards here will be the power-efficient Snapdragon 430 and capable performer SD 625, for the G5 and G5 Plus, respectively. You can either pair these handsets with 2GB or 4GB RAM with 16GB/32GB internal storage option for the G5 and 32GB/64GB for the G5 Plus. If you are going with the 16GB variant, a microSD card supporting up to 128GB will come in handy.
Both are coming in with 5MP selfie snapper but the rear camera of the G5 carries a 13MP f/2.0 phase detection autofocus compared to the wider 12MP f/1.7 aperture with dual-focus pixels for the G5 Plus. Surprisingly, the G5 Plus can record up to 4k resolution for a mid-range handset while the G5 will be limited to 1080p.
Interestingly, the G5 has a removable backing and swappable 2800mAh battery while the bigger model’s 3000mAh is not, same with its cover shell. BUT, the G5 Plus supports Moto’s TurboCharge. So, that basically makes up for it.
The latest Moto G series runs Android Nougat with some interesting features from Moto along with its own customizations. One of which is disabling the on-screen Android keys in exchange for fingerprint navigational functions. Users can actually swipe left for back or right for multitasking view. Also worth nothing, it will be supporting Google Assitant.
The Moto G5 starting price is 199euros or Php10,500 ($210) while the G5 Plus will cost 229euros or Php12,000 ($241). Global shipping will start in March.
