BSP: Be Careful of Fake e-Wallet Transaction Notices!

Have you been doing cashless transactions lately? Or you got used to using services like e-wallets. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s always been a good reminder to watch out for scammers and hackers. Your electronic wallet app could be used to do bad things.

With Christmas around the corner, we’re seeing a rise in fraudulent activities, just like last year. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is alerting everyone about fake digital wallet transaction notices.

In their advisory, the BSP warns that these deceitful text messages often contain alarming news—news of an unauthorized transaction, alerts that a scammer has gotten into your account, requests for your one-time password (OTP), and instructions to click a link for information updates.

Here’s the important part: If you get such messages and suspect anything fishy with your accounts, credit cards, e-wallets, or personal info, the central bank says to contact your banks or e-money providers right away through their official channels.

And if you’ve fallen victim to these scams, don’t worry—there’s a way to fight back.

Digital Wallet Security Updates: How to Report a Cybercrime to PNP-ACG

The BSP says you can report these scammers to the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group Complaint Action Center.

As we gear up for the holidays, it’s crucial to stay on guard against these digital tricks. Have you taken steps to protect your digital transactions this Christmas? Remember that your awareness is your best defense.
