Over the past few weeks, a video of national ID cards being thrown away in a trash area has been shared on social media.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) stated that the video was taken in Barangay Tiling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, where trash is dumped.

In the video, a group of people found several people’s national IDs among the trash at the site.
The ID cards were still in good shape. The names and pictures of the owners, as well as the sign for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) and other personal information, were easy to see and read.
On the video, at least four personal papers of at least two different people were shown.
In answer to the questions, the agency said that the barangay officials are still looking into what happened.
In the study, the state statisticians will also work with the Philippine Postal Corporation, which is the main government office in charge of sending out PhilSys cards.
The PSA, which is in charge of putting the PhilSys into action, said that this is an “isolated” case. It told the public that it follows the strict rules about how important IDs are given out.
Several Filipinos also said they were worried that their IDs might have been in the same place.

Other Filipinos also said they were worried about the safety of their data, especially the personal information on the ID cards shown in the video.
