The Evolution of the Galaxy Tab: Pushing the Boundaries in the Premium Tablet Market

Samsung Electronics’ 2010 Galaxy Tab transformed work and pleasure, especially in a mobile world. After 13 years, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S line continues to elevate work, creativity, and enjoyment as the tablet standard.

Galaxy Tab’s eight generations:

Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab (7.0) in 2010 as the first real Android tablet. The 7-inch, 8.9-inch, and 10.1-inch variants are compact and well-made.

Samsung trimmed down the Galaxy Note 10.1 in 2012. Every Galaxy Tab has the S Pen for multitasking and entertainment. The tablet activates a taskbar with optimized S Pen programs when removed from its slot, a predecessor to Air Command, which lets you set icons, shortcuts, and screen write.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 8-inch tablet with Smart Remote features in 2013. The Galaxy Tab Active, released the following year, included a waterproof construction and the C Pen, a more durable S Pen that can survive a 1.2-meter drop with just its shell.

Samsung introduced its first premium line—Galaxy Tab S—in 2014. Galaxy Gifts and a Super AMOLED tablet are included.

The Galaxy Tab S2, debuted in 2015, had superior and all-new screens with a 4:3 aspect ratio for reading articles, e-books, and browsing internet information. Microsoft Office was pre-installed to boost productivity.

The Galaxy Tab S3’s 9.7-inch Super AMOLED display made 2017 notable. Samsung’s top-of-the-line tablets have the S Pen for PDF annotation and professional drawing. It enhanced video, gaming, and productivity. The 10.6-inch TFT LCD and 12-inch Super AMOLED Galaxy Book gave professionals more computing power for work and play.

Samsung DeX on the Galaxy Tab S4 gave consumers PC-like productivity and tablet mobility in 2018. Its 07mm S Pen made writing easy. The tablet has a 10.5 Super AMOLED Display, four 1.2W AKG speakers, and Dolby Atmos sound for immersive entertainment.

In 2019, Samsung released the thinnest Tab S5e with SmartThings functionality to manage lights, door locks, and thermostats.

The Galaxy Tab S6, introduced the same year, became the first 5G tablet in early 2020.

Samsung upgraded the S Pen for increased power and control, including S Pen Air functions for faster selfies and multimedia management. The thin and lightweight modern-style Galaxy Tab S6 Lite debuted in May 2020 features a crystal-clear screen that can change into an enlarged desktop workstation and send multiple windows to a Galaxy device of choice.

In 2021, the Galaxy Tab S7, S7+, and S7 FE debuted with more advancements. Samsung Notes lets users seamlessly sync across Galaxy devices for wireless multitasking. Its landscape camera is now “center stage.”

Samsung’s biggest and boldest Galaxy tablets, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, S8+, and S8, feature the fastest 4nm processor and Armor Aluminum for a more elegant and lightweight device experience. And more! The latest S Pen is the most precise and lowest latency at 2.8ms, down from 5.6ms on the S7+, and works flawlessly with the Galaxy device ecosystem and partners.
