If you use Facebook frequently, your Messenger inbox may eventually become overflowing with numerous discussions. Occasionally, vital messages can be lost in a sea of pointless chatter. Facebook provides a clever way to archive pointless discussions so that your inbox stays tidy. You can archive messages on Facebook Messenger by following these steps.
Both the Facebook Messenger desktop and mobile apps allow you to archive communications. All three platforms will be discussed, and the distinctions between deleting and archiving chats on Facebook Messenger will be briefly touched upon.
IF YOU ARCHIVE A CHAT IN MESSENGER, WHAT HAPPENS?
Let’s discuss the significance of the chat before we demonstrate how to preserve it in Messenger. The Messenger app removes the chat from your home screen when you archive a conversation. The discussions can always be unarchived from the same option.
Messenger does not have a feature that lets users “pin” essential chats to the top as WhatsApp and Telegram do. You can archive pointless talks and keep only the important contacts on the Messenger home page so that you don’t have to search for pertinent communications.
HOW TO ARCHIVE CONVERSATIONS ON FACEBOOK MESSENGER MOBILE APPS
Step 1: Open the Messenger app on your Android phone.
Step 2: Long-press on a conversation you want to archive.
Step 3: Select Archive and hide it from your main inbox.
The steps for android devices on putting conversations on the archive are the same as for iPhone users.
ARCHIVE CONVERSATIONS ON THE FACEBOOK MESSENGER DESKTOP
Step 1: Visit Facebook Messenger in a web browser on your computer. Sign in with your Facebook account details.
Step 2: Check a list of conversations from the main menu.
Step 3: Hover the cursor over a conversation and click the three-dot menu.
Step 4: Select Archive chat.
Step 5: Repeat the same for all conversations you want to hide.
Archive doesn’t work like the delete function on messenger, it does however hides the message so that you won’t see it on the homepage. Archiving is better since you can’t undo or retrieve deleted messages, but if you put it in the archive, you can always check on it later and put it back out if you decided to.
HERE IS HOW TO UNARCHIVE MESSAGES IN FACEBOOK MESSENGER
Browser
Step 1: Head to Messenger on the web. Select Archived from the left sidebar.
Step 2: Select the three horizontal dots menu and click Unarchive chat. The conversation will appear on the main page.
Android
Step 1: Open the Options menu in Messenger (from the top-left corner).
Step 2: Select Archive.
Step 3: Long-press on a conversation and select Unarchive.
Your primary inbox may quickly become full if you respond to questions and clients from Facebook Marketplace. Keeping track of those communications without keeping them on the home screen is easy using archiving.
