Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold5 looks different. The device will not have built-in S Pen capability, and the Korean tech giant will release a foldable smartphone—the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 successor.
Fans who expected stylus support from previous versions were disappointed. Unlike the Galaxy Note, the 2021 Galaxy Z Fold3 introduced pen input, requiring a separate S-pen. As a pen must carry separately, calls for a built-in device have persisted.

Technical challenges persist. The built-in works; however, the pen thickens the foldable smartphone and conflicts with a foldable phone’s slimness when folded. Thinner pens reduce writing feeling. When the pen erects, it was recognized that the financial burden, such as product price increases, was enormous. These are why Samsung decided not to include an S Pen on the Samsung Z Fold5.
Samsung Electronics is improving pen comfort and slimming it. As demand rises, the company plans to create and market S-Pens for foldable devices. “The hinge mechanism of the new foldable tablet has developed, as has the interior space structure, making installing the S Pen difficult,” an industry insider said.
