Netflix is finally introducing spatial audio support to its library of original movies and television shows to enhance the entire viewing experience.
But what is spatial audio? Spatial audio is intended to create a surround sound experience that is immersive and akin to being in a theater. When you watch films or listen to music, imagine having speakers all over you.
Netflix licensed the Sennheiser AMBEO technology to transmit spatial audio to any 2-channel stereo speakers without the need for home theater equipment, enabling users to enjoy surround sound and three-dimensional positional audio.
The streaming provider will automatically enable spatial audio if you don’t have surround sound speakers. If you already have the necessary gear, watching with Dolby Atmos or 5.1 surround sound is advised instead.
