Casio’s new G-Shock watch is an eye-catching orange design that resembles a NASA spacesuit. Orange is the suit’s strategic color, making it easier for them to be rescued if they are abseiling. In space flight ascents and landings, astronauts wear it (refer to the photo below).
Similar to the actual NASA suit, the Casio watch takes inspiration from it. The black dial represents the visor on astronauts’ helmets when they wear spacesuits.
Likewise, the blue accents on the spacesuit’s dial are reminiscent of the dial’s thin blue line. An American flag design appears on the watch’s band loop, while an astronaut is engraved on its back casing.
The Casio Company has been actively engaged with NASA for many years. G-Shocks are among the timepieces NASA has approved for use aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
As of now, Casio has released three NASA-branded models. Before the orange-colored G-Shock, there were white models and black & white models. There is a limited offer of $170 (around ₱9,600) on the new Casio G-Shock. Out of the three NASA-branded G-Shock watches, this is the most expensive.
The orange G-Shock is currently available on the Casio website. In addition to Tough Solar Technology, Casio claims it features Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping. On a single charge, the watch will last approximately ten months of regular use and 22 months of standby use.
