SU7 EV Unveiled, First Electric Car from Xiaomi

Xiaomi, the popular Chinese smartphone maker, recently revealed its very first electric vehicle, setting an ambitious goal to rank among the world’s top five automakers. The eagerly awaited sedan, named SU7 (with ‘SU’ standing for Speed Ultra), boasts what CEO Lei Jun calls “super electric motor” technology, claiming acceleration speeds surpassing Tesla and Porsche electric vehicles.

The SU7, set to hit the market in a few months, comes in two versions with the latter taking the spotlight at the debut

This sedan impresses with its stylish Aqua Blue, Verdant Green, or Mineral Gray color options and eye-catching five-spoke alloy wheels fitted with Michelin tires.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi SU7 features a 101kWh battery utilizing Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology.

This innovative approach integrates the battery into the car body, enhancing structural strength, freeing up floor space, and creating a more spacious interior.

Xiaomi also introduced its E-motors, the HyperEngine with V6 and V6s, boasting a maximum rotor speed of up to 21,000rpm, now in mass production. Notably, the faster Xiaomi HyperEngine V8s, with a staggering 27,200rpm max rotor speed, is slated to hit the roads by 2025, according to Jun.

Despite the excitement, the pricing details are yet to be unveiled. Lei Jun hinted that the cost might be “a bit high,” but he believes it will be justified.
