DESIGN

The Xiaomi 12S is quite intriguing in terms of looks because it is among the most compact flagships due to the presence of a smaller display. Additionally, it is made of high-quality materials, including glass for the back cover (which is shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus), aluminum for the frame, and leather for one of the color options. Despite being larger and chunkier, the Motorola S30 Pro still looks great because of its curved screen at the edges, which is a feature found on many high-end flagships. Additionally, it is splash and dust resistant and features a glass back that is shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It is even more airy and lightweight than its competitor. Which has the most attractive design? What you prefer—a more compact body with better build quality or a curved screen around the edges—largely relies on your personal preferences.

DISPLAY

In terms of image quality, the Xiaomi 12S appears to have a better display on paper. It has a 6.28-inch display with a maximum color gamut of 68 billion, an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a refresh rate of 120Hz, Dolby Vision, the HDR10+ certification, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The Motorola Moto S30 Pro’s higher 144Hz refresh rate is its lone advantage; otherwise, it appears inferior. It boasts a 6.55-inch diagonal P-OLED display with 1 billion colors, FHD+ resolution, HDR10+ certification, and these specifications. You should be aware, nevertheless, that the 12S’s 6.28-inch display size makes it not suitable for everyone. Both devices have an in-display fingerprint reader, but only the Xiaomi 12S has stereo speakers built in.

SPECS & PERFORMANCE

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform, currently the best chipset by Qualcomm, and created using a 4 nm manufacturing method, is the most potent processor put on the Xiaomi 12S. It boasts an octa-core architecture made up of an Adreno 730 GPU, four Cortex A510 CPUs operating at 1.8 GHz, three Cortex A710 CPUs operating at 2.75 GHz, and a Cortex X2 CPU operating at a maximum speed of 3.19 GHz. The SoC is combined with up to 512 GB of native UFS 3.1 storage and up to 12GB of DDR5 RAM. In fact, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus mobile platform, manufactured using a 5 nm fabrication technique, is included with the Motorola Moto S30 Pro. Although it is not as strong as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, it is still not that weak. It boasts an octa-core architecture made up of an Adreno 660 GPU, four Cortex A55 CPUs, three Cortex A78 CPUs, and a Cortex X1 CPU operating at a maximum frequency of 2.99 GHz each. Both phones ship with Android 12 and have the same maximum memory configuration.

CAMERA

The Xiaomi 12S’s camera system is marginally superior to that of the Motorola Moto S30 Pro. A 50MP primary sensor with OIS, a 13MP ultrawide camera, a 5MP telephoto macro lens, and a 32MP selfie camera are all included in the smartphone’s triple camera configuration. A 50MP main camera with OIS, a 13MP ultrawide sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 32MP selfie camera are all included with the Motorola.

BATTERY

The Xiaomi 12S boasts a larger battery than the Motorola S30 Pro despite being a smaller phone. Plus, it should last longer on a single charge in a variety of situations because it features a smaller display and a more effective chipset. These two phones’ wired charging rates are comparable, but only the Xiaomi 12S supports wireless charging, which has a power of 50W.

PRICE & AVAILABILITY

Although the Xiaomi 12S has not yet been released in our country, it is expected that its market price will reach Php49,695, while the Motorola S30 Pro, for which there is currently no information on availability in the Philippines, has been unveiled. It is anticipated to debut as the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion, though.
