Microsoft has started rolling out the Windows 11 2026 Update, also known as Windows 11 version 26H2.
The update is available for eligible PCs running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2. Instead of a full OS upgrade, supported devices receive a smaller enablement package that can install with a single restart.
What’s new
Windows 11 26H2 includes improvements to:
- File Explorer: New AI actions, additional archive formats, faster loading, and more customization.
- Start menu and taskbar: New app views, more Start menu controls, and the option to move the taskbar to the top, left, or right.
- Windows Search: Better handling of typos, previews, and clearer search result categories.
- Security: Built-in Sysmon, passkey credential manager support, Smart App Control changes, and post-quantum cryptography APIs.
- Recovery: Point-in-time restore, Quick Machine Recovery, and improved backup and restore features.
- Accessibility: Improvements to Magnifier, Narrator, and Voice Access.
- Task Manager: New NPU usage and memory monitoring options on supported PCs.
- Connectivity: Bluetooth and USB reliability improvements.
Windows 11 26H2 also removes WMIC (Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line).
How to get Windows 11 26H2
Go to Settings > Windows Update and enable “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available.”
If the device is eligible, the option to download and install Windows 11 26H2 will appear. Microsoft is rolling it out gradually, so it may not be available on every device immediately.
