In the recent beta release (version 2.23.24.20), WhatsApp has introduced a secret code feature for locked chats, aimed at enhancing user privacy.
Beta testers can now set a secret code to hide the entry point for locked chats from the main chat list. To access these chats, users simply enter the secret code in the Chats tab’s search bar.
Additionally, WhatsApp is making it convenient for users to clear their list of locked chats directly from the privacy settings, offering a solution in case the secret code is forgotten.
This heightened privacy measure ensures that sensitive conversations remain concealed, protecting them from unauthorized access or accidental exposure.
Even if someone gains physical access to a user’s phone, they cannot access locked conversations without the secret code.
The rollout of the secret code feature will be gradual over the next few weeks, with a potential stable update in the future. WhatsApp is actively working on other features, such as a privacy option to hide IP addresses during calls and an alternate profile feature for separating work and personal communication.
The confirmation of WhatsApp’s intention to introduce in-app ads has also been disclosed by its head.
