Last March, we were introduced to Vivo’s flagship, Vivo X21 UD and were recently made its way to the Indian market. Jumping from India to the Philippines, Xiaomi has opened the Redmi S2 to Philippine market.

So even though the two smartphones still haven’t met on the Philippine shores, it won’t stop us from facing them against each other. So, here’s the specs comparison of the Vivo X21 UD and Xiaomi Redmi S2.

Vivo X21 UD and Xiaomi Redmi S2 similarities

Looking through the spec sheet, it shows that Vivo X21 UD features a larger screen 6.28-inch display with a higher screen resolution of 1080 x 2280 also with an aspect ratio of 19:9 Super AMOLED Display while the Xiaomi Redmi S2 sports a 5.99-inch display with screen resolution of 720 x 1440 also with an aspect ratio of 18:9 IPS LCD display.
Though Vivo X21 UD has a larger screen display, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 is a bit heavier weighing 170g with a dimension of 160.7 x 77.3 x 8.1 mm while X21 UD weighs 156.2g with a dimension of 154.5 x 74.8 x 7.4 mm.
Under the hood, the Vivo X21 UD is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with Adreno 512 GPU which is higher compared to Redmi S2’s Snapdragon 625 with Adreno 512. The Vivo X21 UD carries 6GB of RAM/ 128 GB storage while Xiaomi Redmi S2 has two RAM and storage variants of 4GB of RAM / 64GB storage or 3GB of RAM / 32GB storage. Both handsets are similar running latest of Android 8.1 Oreo.
Going to the optics, both smartphones are similar to the main camera with 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel. However, on Vivo X21 UD it has a f/1.8 aperture for the 12MP lens and f/2.4 for the 5MP lens. On the other hand, Xiaomi Redmi S2 has a f/2.2 for the 12MP lens. Just like X21 UD’s main camera lens, it is also equipped with a 12-megapixel lens for the front camera while the Xiaomi Redmi S2 focusing on their front-facing camera offering a 16-megapixel with an AI.
Lastly, for the security features, from the looks of it, the Vivo X21 UD is more advanced compared to Xiaomi Redmi S2. Vivo X21 UD has the under-display fingerprint scanner which is only just starting to dominate the smartphone industry. In addition to this, the X21 UD also has a face unlock feature while on the other hand Redmi S2 only offers a fingerprint scanner which is forgivable for a budget smartphone.
The Vivo X21 UD is available in two color variants, Black and Ruby Red but is not yet released here in the Philippines while Xiaomi Redmi S2 is available in three color variants, Rose Gold, Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver for a retail price Php 7,990.
