Vivo V5 Plus – Full Review

Regular selfies not cutting it for you? Two front facing cameras might just be the answer.

Meet the Vivo V5 Plus.

The Vivo V5 Plus resembles that of an iPhone 7 in many aspects of its design cues.

The entire build copies the unibody metallic design of the iPhone 7 right to the antenna lines.

The upper left portion is where the camera bump with the LED flash is located.

The side rounds and curves to meet the front glass panel.

Unlike other bigger siblings of a smartphone lineup, V5 Plus retained its 5.5-inch screen.

The chin houses the home button with embedded fingerprint sensor flanked by backlit navigational keys.

The top portion locates the headliner which is the dual selfie camera with led flash that we will get to in a bit.

The power button and volume rocker will be located on the right side. On the opposite end will be the dual nano sim tray.

The crowded bottom portion houses the 3.55mm headphone jack, microUSB port and a speaker grille.

Overall build is sleek and comfortable in the hands. Its slimness makes it easy to use without the need for finger gymnastics.

Amongst the V5 family, the V5 Plus will be the only sibling sporting a 1080p display in a 5.5-inch IPS LCD panel.

The experience is decent overall with good details. Blacks came out grayish and whites leaned on the yellowish side.

Viewing angles are great. No problem here when being used under direct sunlight.

The main camera will be packing a 16MP f/2.0 PDAF with LED flash for your trigger happy self.

Every shot under daylight resulted to a sharp and natural-looking photos with good dynamic range.

Indoor shots share the same story seen here.

Low-light shots were noisy and smooth in detail handling. The LED flash will aid in capturing better shots in close proximity.

Night shooting was a struggle for the V5 Plus seen here.

Video recording can take up to 4K resolution with the same quality as daylight shots. A steady hand will almost always be needed as it does not come with any form of stabilization features.

The headliner of the V5 Plus is the mighty capable dual camera setup at 20MP + 8MP sensor for an added depth of field.

Dubbed as ‘perfect selfie’, the V5 Plus delivered great looking selfies that might be the best looking out there. Make your face stand out even more with bokeh effect in tow.

A mid-range Snapdragon 625 SoC runs the V5 Plus with an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.0GHZ to go along with 4GB RAM and 64GB non-expadanble storage.

Antutu benchmark hit a high score of 62,524.

Based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the FunTouch OS 3.0 delivers an iPhone like UI.

Social media, video streaming and chatting apps will fire up on the Vivo V5 Plus with a hitch even with a few background applications queued up. All thanks to the generous 4GB RAM and decently capable processor.

Should you wish to use this as a gaming device, Real Racing 3 AND NBA 2K17 were playable at decent frame rates when set at medium settings.

The embedded fingerprint sensor is also quick and accurate with a perfect 10 out of 10 tries for us.

The 3160mAh battery can manage an average of 3.5 hours of screen on time with 20hours of standby time.

To make up for its average battery life, topping it up will only require you an hour and 50mins.

The bottom firing speaker is pretty standard with no distortions. Support for 32bit hi-res audio playback will be enjoyed via audio accessories.

Pricing and Verdict

Vivo V5 Plus officially retails for Php19,990 or $402.

The Vivo V5 Plus challenges the mid-range department starting off with a very convincing selfie-focused smartphone. Together with good specifications, it’s highly likely you’ll be getting one for yourself for that ‘Perfect Selfie.’
