vivo is on a roll this year, adding yet another model to their V series lineup! This time, it’s a more budget-friendly version of the latest vivo V40 5G, which we reviewed just a few weeks back.
So, does the vivo V40 Lite bring all the features of the V40 at a more affordable price? Here’s our take on the vivo V40 Lite!
The vivo V40 Lite brings a fresh design that sets it apart from the vivo V40. With two vertically positioned camera modules, it also features the Aura Light subtly placed at the bottom, giving it a unique look.
The unit we’re reviewing comes in the Violet colorway. If this shade doesn’t quite fit your style, you have two other options, Silver and Black.
On the right side of the frame, you’ll find the power button and volume rockers, leaving the left and top edges clean. The bottom houses the charging port, a speaker grille, and the SIM card tray.
The vivo V40 Lite boasts a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a 2400 × 1080 pixel resolution. While it’s slightly smaller than the vivo V40 and comes with a lower resolution and peak brightness of 1800 nits, the difference in experience is minimal.
The display quality is impressive, delivering sharp and vibrant colors with excellent viewing angles and no noticeable color shifts. Even under bright sunlight, the V40 Lite’s brightness holds up well, providing a comfortable viewing experience.
As we all know, vivo’s V series is most known for its cameras. The vivo V40 Lite is equipped with a dual-camera setup on the rear, featuring a 50MP OIS main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor for the 4G variant (yes! it has a 4G variant).
The 5G variant comes with the same 50MP OIS main sensor but upgrades to an 8MP depth camera. On the front, a 32MP selfie camera is housed within a punch-hole cutout.
But since we have the 5G variant here, we will test out the 50MP main sensor and 8MP depth camera. Check out the sample shots below.
Testing out the 32MP front camera is a delightful experience; check out its sample shots below.
Since there are two variants of the vivo V40 Lite, there are also two different chipsets. The 4G variant is powered by the Snapdragon 685 4G, while the 5G variant features the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2.
The vivo V40 Lite is available with either 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM, paired with 256GB or 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Additionally, this device supports expandable storage of up to 2TB.
The 4G model delivers solid performance typical of mid-range devices, but it may struggle with demanding applications.
In contrast, the 5G model offers enhanced performance, complete with advanced AI features for improved camera functionality and overall device efficiency, though it might still fall short in heavy gaming scenarios.
Check out its benchmark results below.
Benchmark Results
Charging the device is a pleasant experience, as the vivo V40 Lite features a standard 5000mAh battery that supports 80W wired charging with a Type-C charger.
When it’s time to recharge, bringing the phone from 0% to 100% takes around 53 minutes, which I find commendable.
Of course, we shouldn’t forget the video loop test. From 100% to 0%, it took us a total of 19 hours and 44 minutes of enjoyable entertainment using the vivo V40 Lite.
For pricing, the vivo V40 Lite 4G variant (8GB + 256GB) is available for PHP 13,999.
The 5G variant comes in two configurations: the 8GB + 256GB model is priced at PHP 15,999, while the 12GB + 512GB version is available for PHP 18,999.
The vivo V40 Lite is an impressive addition to the V series, showcasing a stylish design, a vibrant 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and strong camera capabilities, including a 50MP main sensor. Its expandable storage options that is up to 2TB and fast 80W charging enhance its appeal.
However, the 4G variant may struggle with demanding apps, and while the 5G model offers better performance, it might not be ideal for heavy gaming.
This can also be a great alternative if you are aiming for the vivo V40 features but on a budget.
Overall, the vivo V40 Lite provides a solid balance of performance and affordability, making it a great choice for those seeking a reliable smartphone.
