vivo is shaking the smartphone industry with its new vivo T1x and T1 5G that was launched on May 27^th 2022. The much-awaited products boast gaming-capable hardware specs and premium design — all of these for hard-to-resist pricing.

Equipped with a Snapdragon 680 chipset, the vivo T1x is looking to be one of the most compelling gaming smartphones in 2022. But how does the vivo T1x stack up in real-world usage especially in the gaming department? Read on to find out the answer if the new affordable phone is also the next gaming phone to beat on its range.

Thin device

We’ve been using the vivo T1x 4G for some time now and we can’t resist saying that it’s a comfortable daily driver because of its 8mm slim profile. In addition, the lightweight form of the device makes it less stressful to hold for long periods of gaming and binge-watching of videos.

Moreover, the vivo T1x 4G is a notable stunner considering its budget price. Our unit comes in Space Blue variant that shows a reflected hue accent at the back. The squarish camera array adds a premium touch when viewed in a well-lit area or directly under sunlight. If you want a more subtle color, then Gravity Black is your option which also uses a Frosted curtain coating according to the company.

In terms of ergonomics, both the combination power button and fingerprint scanner are well-positioned on the right side. They are easy to reach with your thumb and we don’t have a problem using the sensor most of the time.

Crisp 1080p display

Measured at 6.58-inch wide and sporting a high 401 ppi, the display of the vivo T1x offers Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate which are mostly reserved for more expensive devices. The display with a rich screen-to-ratio of 90 percent is bright and crisp with accurate colors fitting for long hours of movie playback or graphically-intensive gaming.

Users can opt for some blue light filter if they’re playing games in the middle of the night. Alternatively, there is an option for color profile adjustment found in the settings. More importantly, the refresh rate is adaptive and will automatically suit depending on the type of task running on the device.

Overall, we’ve more praise for the display than complaints. We just don’t how vivo was able to fit this kind of screen real-estate on this affordable gaming device, which is surprising.

Gaming-centric smartphone with efficient battery life

Designed for gaming, the vivo T1x handles any game titles without stuttering. The efficient octa-core Snapdragon 680 processor has plenty of oomph paired with an extendable 4GB +1GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Outside gaming, switching back and forth to a different window’s overall experience is smooth.

Fortunately, the 4GB RAM has a extension of another 1GB shared RAM coming from the on-board storage to make it 5GB in total. This alleviates the stress on the actual memory when you’re playing triple A titles or heavily multitasking.

We get a stable 60fps on modest graphic settings for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Frame drops are rare but the max downside rate is around 55 – 59fps, which is impressive for this price point. The same goes for PUBG Mobile which is relatively on the stable side at 59fps for medium graphics settings compared to Call of Duty: Mobile that gets 35 – 40 fps.

Impressive battery life

Built from the 6nm process, the Qualcomm chipset found on the vivo T1x 4G enables efficient performance. In total, the 5000 mAh battery lasts up to two days of modest use or is good for several hours of gaming at normal graphics settings. Of course, you can expect more running time with browsing, compiling TikTok entries, streaming videos, and light gaming from a single charge.

Charging the device takes a considerable amount of time. A 30-minute plug translates to about 33 percent filled juice. This is quite okay for this price point. At least, there is a power adapter and cable that come with the retail package and you don’t need to buy those accessories separately.

Reliable 50MP main camera

By papers, we thought the triple camera setup on this shooter is just speculative. But we admit that we’re wrong. The 50MP main wide sensor just takes really good images, especially in daylight scenarios. Presumably, this is because the f/1.8 aperture assists in capturing more light into the sensor, thus details are retained and noises are reduced.

Completing the triple setup is a pair of 2-megapixel sensors, one for depth and another for macro. At the front is an 8MP selfie shooter with a wide lens assuring more area is included in each shot. The rated video resolution is 1080p at 30fps. Several software advantages are also available, thanks to the intuitive camera UI of Funtouch OS based on Android.

Conclusion: A beastly gaming hardware at an aggressive retail price

With the introduction of the vanilla T1 and T1x, it seems vivo is serious about making a dent in the mobile gaming segment. Both the T1 and T1x are solid devices that are positioned for mid-range and entry-level gaming without heavily skimping on other features.

As for the vivo T1x 4G, we’re quite surprised how the company managed to impress us with this budget gaming package for sub-P9000 pricing. Who would have thought that you would find a mid-range Snapdragon 680 SoC on an entry-level device? Definitely not!

Throw in an extendable RAM and large battery on an efficient chipset, and voila! The vivo T1x 4G makes it more compelling to buy than to spend extra bucks on those more expensive alternatives that present the same performance.
