Top smartphones to watch out for in 2018

For the past months, we’ve seen tons of leaked images and leaked specs of smartphones this 2018, some actually have been launched already. If you’re looking for a new smartphone, these are some handsets to keep an eye out this year.

Nokia 8 Sirocco

Nokia revealed the Nokia 8 Sirocco which was labeled as a design masterpiece for 95% of its surface area is vacuum-molded Gorilla glass 5. Similar to the Nokia 7 plus, the Nokia 8 Sirocco will also feature a highly sensitive main camera paired with a telephoto lens. Not only that but the model will contain three high dynamic range microphones. Nokia 8 Sirocco will also have 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It will be available by April 2018 at the price of €749, approximately Php47,900.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s

Rumors have been spreading about the alleged Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S in regards to its specifications and features. An image of the device has just surfaced where it reveals that the phone may contain an in-screen fingerprint scanner, that was first seen on Vivo X20 UD.

There are expectations that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S may be an upgrade of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 which was launched last year. According to the leaked photo, the new device will contain a higher screen-to-body ratio compared to the Mi MIX 2.  It will also feature 12 MP optical zoom dual camera. It will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset and will contain 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM.

Although photos of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S have appeared, there is still no confirmation if they are real or not.

Nokia 7 Plus

The next device is the new Nokia 7 plus which features a 6″ Full HD plus 18×9 display. The phone will also contain highly sensitive imaging sensors with triple sized optics as well as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 mobile platform with 4 GB RAM. The phone will also have the Pro Camera due to popular demand. Similar to the other Nokia phone that were recently launched, the Nokia 7 Plus will be available by April 2018 at the price of €399 which is approximately Php25,500.

LG G7 Neo

A hands-on video appeared with the new LG smartphone called the LG G7 Neo.

The LG G7 Neo will have a 6-inch display with a new OLED technology. Also, it has a 3120 x 1440 resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. If you watch the attached video, there’s no notch at first, but after a few seconds, the notch appeared. The notch on the LG G7 Neo “hides” on the home screen.

In the camera department, it’ll come with dual camera setup with both having 16MP sensors. For the selfie snapper, it might come with an 8MP camera sensor.

The LG G7 Neo is also said to be powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor which will be coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage or 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM. It might also pack a 3,000mAh battery.

Apple iPhone X Plus

There are rumors that Apple will release the bigger and bolder variant of its latest flagship, the iPhone X. According to an analyst named Ming Chi Kuo, whose supply chain sources always appear to deliver correct gossip about Apple products, iPhone X Plus will be launched in 2018. It will be featuring a massive 6.5-inch screen.

A dual lens camera, Face ID, and faster internal components are expected.

ASUS Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5z

The Zenfone 5 can recognize 16 different scenes as well as adjust the colors, saturation, white balance, and dynamic based on the scenes it detects, therefore making photography a whole lot easier. Not only this, the device can also analyze the user’s preference in regards to their preferred outcome from pictures they took through AI photo learning. Along with the AI photography, the phone will also feature light sensitive main and wide-angle dual rear cameras.

Asus claims that the new Asus Zenfone 5 smartphones will include other AI features such as AI display, AI ringtone, and AI performance. Along with these, the new model will also contain the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, making it the first globally announced smartphone to have it.

Huawei P20

The video teaser has the date “27-03-2018” on it and the phrase “See more with AI”. The Huawei CEO Richard Yu also mentioned that they had some very big, bold, big innovation on camera technology and that it would be much better than all the phones in a recent interview. The P20’s cameras will also be powered by AI.

it is also rumored that the P20 Plus/Pro’s triple camera setup will include 12-megapixel RGB sensor, a 16-megapixel monochrome sensor and a 16-megapixel telephoto lens. Other features include f/1.8 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization. The Huawei P20 may come with RGB + monochrome dual camera setup.

Vivo X20 UD

Vivo launched the X20 Plus UD, which is the first smartphone that features in-screen fingerprint sensor. Vivo has partnered with US-based sensor maker Synaptics to achieve under-glass fingerprint sensor in the front of the phone. However, be informed that the in-screen fingerprint sensor might not work with some screen protectors.

The X20 Plus UD comes with a massive 6.43-inch, 18:9 Super OLED display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,140. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, coupled with  4 GB RAM and 128 internal storage and fueled by 3,905 mAh battery.

Xiaomi Mi 6x

A transparent back cover of a smartphone has been seen online last year and rumors have it to be of Xiaomi Mi 6X. The Chinese company has been releasing new devices aggressively.

Looking at the leaked photo, it reveals that the Xiaomi Mi 6X will be having dual rear camera setup. The camera arrangement will be similar to the design of Apple iPhone X, which was released last year. Also, the leaked photo of the  Mi 6X shows the fingerprint sensor. This new smartphone will obviously sport an 18:9 touchscreen, possibly a 5.99″ panel.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X is the successor of Xiaomi Mi 6 which was launched in China in 2017. Also, there are rumors going around that the Xiaomi Mi 6X will be feature Xiaomi’s in-house Surge processor instead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

The Galaxy S9 features a 5.8-inch, while the Plus variant comes with 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display. According to Samsung, both phones come with a new kind of coating on the screen that delivers deeper blacks. Both smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s latest chipset, which is the Snapdragon 845. Also, both are packed with 64 GB of storage and support for microSD card.

The S9 comes with 4 GB of RAM and 3,000mAh battery, on the other hand, the Plus model features 6 GB of RAM and 3,500mAh battery. Both features Quick Charge 2.0 and wireless charging.

According to some benchmarks, the cameras of the Samsung S9 and s9+ are the best this year so far. Both the S9 and S9+ can shoot 4K videos at 60 fps. These phones also support HD quality slow-motion videos. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available starting on March 16, 2018.
