OPPO Reno4

OPPO Reno4 is a new mid-range phone from the company that was made available in the Philippines recently. While you may look at it as just another affordable phone on the market, it has a few tricks up its sleeve that may make you want it over the competition. If you’ve been thinking of splurging for a new phone, look no further than the successor to the Reno3.

1. Attractive and Durable Glass-Looking Design

OPPO always tries to make its phones attractive, regardless of the price point. With the Reno4, that continues to bode well. The back-finish comes in Galatic Blue that’s smooth to the touch yet doesn’t attract a lot of fingerprint smudges. The same goes for the Space Black version, albeit with a subtle OPPO imprint on the bottom portion. While they may look like glass, they are of plastic. It’s not as premium as glass, but it won’t break easily when accidentally dropped, making for a durable phone.

2. Bright and Punchy Display

Unlike most affordable mid-range phones today. Reno4 separates itself with a bright, colorful, and accurate display quality. Thanks to Super AMOLED, every aspect of the screen is just plain better than IPS LCD. The screen real estate is large, too, measuring 6.4″ diagonal in a 20:9 FHD+ resolution.

3. Gaming-Capable and Power-Efficient Chipset

This year, OPPO decided to go for Snapdragon 720G chipset from Qualcomm instead of a MediaTek counterpart. As much as we want to give credit to Helio chipsets, Snapdragon is just better when it comes to efficiency that allows for longer battery life and less thermal output. The octa-core CPU and Adreno 618 GPU combine for a smooth day-to-day experience, which is also capable of handling most games today.

4. Large RAM and Storage with an Option to Expand

Though unnoticeable, smartphone manufactures are slowly phasing out microSD slot expansion storage. Fortunately, that’s not true for the Reno4. It still lets you expand storage with a dedicated slot to add to the already large 128GB internal capacity. On top of that, 8GB RAM is plenty enough for whatever you need to do. We also think it’s the standard RAM capacity in 2020, so lags and stutters are kept to a minimum.

5. Always-on Display

Because, why not!? Always-on Display feature is reserved usually for top-end smartphones. This time, we like how you can finally check notifications, time, date, or control music from a partially-lit screen. It saves battery, too, thanks to the screen being of AMOLED.

6. Get 50% Charge in 20 mins!

If you find the 4015mAh battery of the Reno4 a bit short, you can always fast charge with VOOC 4.0 technology. It lets the phone go from 0-50% in just 20mins, and up to 100% in more (or less) 60 mins. With the 30W output, you don’t have to wait that long for the phone to recharge.

7. Steady Video Selfie Also Means Sharper Selfies

With TikTok becoming a hot trend lately, OPPO Reno4 aims to provide you better selfie video quality with its steady video selfie. Thanks to more stable footage, vlogging won’t be a problem with this phone. On top of that, you can expect selfies to be sharper than previous generations.

8. Get Really Slooooow

Through frame insertion algorithm, or as OPPO simply calls it AI Slow-motion, you can capture another whole new world with the 48MP main camera. Capturing action in 240fps and converting it to 960fps means you can slow every single thing down.

9. AI Color Portrait

Want to stand out in your photos or videos? A simple tap on AI Color Portrait will isolate the subject in color and keep the rest in black and white. It’s an easy way to rack up likes and put your followers in awe with this creative feature. And the best part — you don’t have to download anything, it’s all in the built-in camera app.

10. Use Reno4 without Touching the Screen and Keep Notifications Private

Air Gestures is a feature that you may find useful when you can’t control your phone with your hands, perhaps due to wet hands or you’re occupied with something. Thanks to the smart sensor housed inside the pill-shaped cutout, it can recognize hand gestures that let you scroll through feeds, among others.

If I have to pick a favorite feature within ColorOS 7.2, it’s the privacy feature that hides the content of notifications unless the sensor recognizes your face and eyes.

OPPO Reno4 is now available for purchase for P18,990. Visit your nearest authorized OPPO retailer or shop on Lazada or Shopee for door-to-door delivery.
