Dropping your phone in water is one of the worst nightmares that could ever happen to us so if ever that you’re doomed right now, here are some of the tips you could do to save your smartphone.

Quickly remove your phone from the water

As soon you’ve seen your phone from the water, quickly grab it so that there will be less damage. Don’t hesitate even if it falls in the toilet because you can always wash your hands right after, and your phone is a different story.

Do not press any keys or do anything that could push the water further into the phone.

Turn it off

Okay, you’ve rescued your phone. What’s next? Plugging it in? NO! Turning it off. Obviously, electricity and water are mortal enemies so we have to prevent them from meeting each other. So, saving your phone from short-circuiting is a great start.

If applicable, disassemble the phone

If your phone can be disassembled then immediately remove the battery so that drying out the phone will be easier.

However, a lot of phones today cannot be opened just like phones from years ago. So if this is the case if you are comfortable and confident that you can open using a screwdriver, take your time to remove it as much as possible to expose a greater surface for drying. If not, do not take the risk.

Remove components inserted

SIM and MicroSD should also be removed because we are not just saving your phone, we are also saving your valuable data that store in your cards.

Dry it out

Now for fixing the phone

  • Gently shake to remove excess water or moist
  • Take a towel and soak up water as much as you can
  • Avoid wiping too hard
  • Avoid using a hairdryer
  • You can try using a small vacuum cleaner
  • Seal the smartphone in a bag of uncooked rice or silica packets

The last step is to leave it for 24 to 48 hours before testing out the phone. Be patient.

If your phone resurrected from the dead then that is great, you don’t have to buy another one! You could start to take more care to your phone by buying waterproof cases.

And if it doesn’t work, you have to accept defeat and take it to the experts to have it repaired if it can still be saved. But, if your beloved phone can’t make it then it is the time to let go and buy phones that are water resistant so that if this happens again, it won’t be a problem.
