Testing the vivo V70 Cameras and AI Magic Tools

Our full review of the vivo V70 is now available to watch and read, where we shared our complete experience with the device.

But in this article, we’ll focus on vivo V70’s ZEISS camera capabilities, new AI photo features, night photography, and more.

With summer already in the Philippines, many Filipinos will likely be traveling and taking more photos. The question is whether the vivo V70 is a good device for capturing those moments.

Read on to find out.

50MP ZEISS OIS Main Camera

First things first, the rear camera setup includes a 50MP ZEISS OIS main camera with autofocus.

In our experience, the vivo V70 produces photos with good detail and generally natural-looking colors.

If we’re going to look at the photos we took with the Eagle as our subject, it gave us a decent feather texture.

Other photos have good subject isolation, vibrant colors, and good shading.

For subjects that are closer like this flower, we think it gives off a nice bokeh without looking fake.

Overall, photos taken in good lighting are ready for social media, with no need for editing.

ZEISS Multi-Focal Portrait

Next is the 50MP ZEISS super telephoto camera with autofocus and OIS.

For the telephoto, the dynamic range is good, and what we like here is that the colors look natural and not overly saturated.

Also, it has a natural subject separation, the tones look consistent and realistic, with a slight blur effect on the skin

There is also an 8MP ZEISS ultra-wide-angle camera for expansive landscape shots.

AI Magic Weather

vivo also launches two new AI features with the vivo V70. Let’s start with one of the new features, AI Magic Weather.

According to vivo, this new tool allows users to adjust the sky and overall mood of a photo.

For reference, we used the same shot and applied the different AI Magic Weather options to clearly see how each one changes the image.

Below is the original photo. For some users, this may already look good enough. However, vivo V70 gives the option to change the concept of your shot.

The Clear Sky filter, as its name suggests, places more emphasis on the sky. It adds deeper blue tones and slightly darker yet more vibrant colors overall.

Morning Glow, on the other hand, gives the photo a sunrise vibe. Hues of bright orange are added compared to the original image.

Evening Glow delivers the opposite effect, offering a sunset look instead. Shades of pink and orange appear in the sky, for a sundown effect.

Lastly, Twilight showcases a darker, evening tone. It introduces deeper blue shades, and we also noticed additional effects, such as lights appearing from the houses, which add to the nighttime feel.

However, when using the AI tool, especially the Twilight and Evening Glow options, some photos can look obviously AI-edited, likely because the original images were taken in broad daylight. Still, it’s a fun addition to the photography tools.

AI Magic Landscape

Next is another new feature called AI Magic Landscape.

It comes with three filters, which are Island, Desert, and Snowy Town. Below is the original photo used for comparison.

For the Island filter, trees were noticeably added to the sides, along with fresher-looking grass. The overall vibe became more vibrant and sunny, just as you would expect from an island setting.

As for the Desert filter, we weren’t able to fully utilize it since we couldn’t find the most suitable scene for it. However, in our experience, it applied a warm orange tone across the photo.

The AI tool was also able to replace the ground with a dry, rocky texture, which added more character and made the scene feel closer to an actual desert environment.

Lastly, the Snowy Town filter. Some shots had difficulty showcasing the snow effect. But, the AI tool will shift the images to white and bluish tones, creating a colder and more winter-like atmosphere.

Supermoon Feature

We also took photos of the moon to try the Supermoon Feature.

The photo is clean. The details on the craters are visible, but still have that slight sharpening vibe.

We’re not entirely sure how different the results would be compared to using the regular camera mode, but the feature might be useful for users who enjoy taking photos of the moon.

Night Photography

For night shots, the vivo V70’s camera system is clearly capable. Considering the lighting conditions, the tones look consistent, and shadows retain some detail without becoming too noisy.

What we like about the shots, even at night, is that the results are pleasantly warm and not overly processed.

The street and architectural shots look natural too.

On the other hand, this clock tower photo might look a little smudged, but it might be because of shaky hands or maybe because of the device’s heavy noise reduction.

To answer the question if the vivo V70 is a good phone for your travels? Well, it is a well-balanced midrange device, especially if photography is one of your priorities.

The camera produces photos with good detail, balanced colors, and solid dynamic range in good and low lighting.

Overall, for a mid-range device, the results are impressive. However, if you expect flagship-level clarity, there are some limitations.
