It’s been a while since we last checked out a TECNO device.
So, today, we’re taking a look at the TECNO Spark 30 and see what it brings to the table in the budget smartphone market.
This particular unit is the Bumblebee edition, a special collaboration with Transformers. So, aside from its unique look, what else does this phone offer? Let’s find out!
First, let’s talk about the design. As the name suggests, this device has a bumblebee-themed back panel. While I’m not a big fan of flashy designs and prefer something simple and low profile, Transformers fans will likely appreciate this eye-catching look. The level of detail put into the design is impressive and adds to its appeal.
In terms of build quality, the back panel has a glossy finish that can attract fingerprints, but the color scheme helps conceal smudges. It offers a good grip, making it easy to hold and carry. Weighing in at a reasonable level and with a thickness of 7.7mm, it’s comfortable in hand. It also comes with IP64 dust and water resistance for added durability.
Moving to the frame, you’ll find the volume rockers and power button on the right side, a speaker grille on top, the SIM tray on the left, and a USB-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone, and another speaker grille at the bottom.
Overall, the design adds a unique touch to the budget segment and is complemented by solid build quality and durability.
Next, let’s dive into the display. The TECNO Spark 30 has a 6.78″ FHD+ IPS LCD with a resolution of 1080×2460. It supports a 90Hz refresh rate and has a peak brightness of 800 nits. The refresh rate comes with an auto-switch feature for better battery efficiency, but there’s also an option to keep it at 90Hz if you prefer.
When it comes to display performance, it’s not the best for outdoor use, but it does well for general entertainment. The display offers good viewing angles, no noticeable color shifts, and delivers crisp, vibrant visuals. The bezels around the display are slightly thick but don’t detract significantly from the experience. Watching shows on this screen has been enjoyable.
Considering its price point, having an FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate is quite impressive.
Now, let’s move on to the cameras. The TECNO Spark 30 features a large camera module on the back, housing a dual-camera setup with a 64MP Sony IMX682 main sensor and an auxiliary lens. The front camera is a 13MP shooter.
The camera captures good-quality images with decent color balance and a wide dynamic range. Despite being in the budget category, the main sensor produces results that are more than adequate for social media posts without needing any extra editing.
Main Camera
For selfies, the camera captures true-to-life skin tones, but images can sometimes have deep blacks and shadows. Still, the output is decent and acceptable for its price.
Selfie Camera
When it comes to video recording, both the rear and front cameras can record at 2K@30FPS, though there’s no stabilization feature.
Next, let’s discuss its performance and software. The TECNO Spark 30 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G91 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The RAM can be expanded by an additional 8GB via MemFusion, which helps with multitasking and faster app launches.
The device runs on Android 14 with TECNO’s HiOS 14.5 skin. While there are pre-installed apps, they can be easily removed. The icons can also be customized in the settings if you prefer a different look.
In terms of gaming, the TECNO Spark 30 handles titles like Mobile Legends and Call of Duty smoothly with little to no issues. It offers a good gaming experience, and the device barely heats up during gameplay.
Benchmark Result
Lastly, let’s look at the battery and charging. The TECNO Spark 30 has a 5000mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging. During our video loop test, the device lasted 14 hours and 12 minutes.
For gaming, you can expect up to 6 hours of battery life with continuous play. Charging the device with an 18W charger took about 1 hour and 50 minutes, which is reasonable for an entry-level device.
As for the price, the TECNO Spark 30 Bumblebee Edition is priced at PHP6,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant.
For a device priced under PHP7,000, the TECNO Spark 30 offers solid performance for day-to-day activities and a unique design. It may not be the best choice for playing demanding games, but it can handle itself well as a main or backup phone.
